"SISTERS"

"Sisters," appearing at Summerfest '82 on Sunday, September 5, is a Two-man show created by Lee and Van Dyck when the "Frisco Follies Grand Illusion" show closed after a 12-year run. The Follies was a grand-scale drag version of a Las Vegas revue, complete with show girls and a band.

Michael Lee was the male lead in the Follies from its inception. Before that, he had been working as a female impersonator. Now, he has returned to the world of illusion as a versatile impersonator. His forte is singing his own original songs (to taped music), which are witty, clever, and very much like those of Noel Coward.

He also does many impressions, mostly live. His Carol Channing comes on stage talking and only stops when singing. Bette Davis is her usual, bitchy self, while Shirley McLaine dances her way into your heart-complete with a baton-twirling finish! His ability to lip-sync is illustrated brilliantly with his impressions of Liza Minnelli and Shirley Bassey.

J. J. Van Dyck started in show business many years ago and, eventually, did his first drag stint when he opened at the world-famous Finocchio's in San Franciscc. stayed at that one club for five years and then took his one-man show on the road.

не

After playing his one-man show for three years, he joined the Frisco Follies and worked with it until it closed in 1981.

J. J. is perhaps best known for his live impressions, some original and some of stars. He is the only one allowed (if he wants) to bil! himself as "The Male Phyllis Diller," but he prefers his "family" of original impressions to doing those. of the stars. His "Zelda's Magic Act" is truly a classic bit of comedy, while "The Horniest Old Broad in the State" is someone he is sure you've known personally.

"Amanda Laye" is a drunken delight; his "Fem Libber" is "too butch for words." "Granny Makes a Salad" is not be be believed, as she uses the music of "The Stripper" to full advantage. His "Nobody Loves a Fairy When She's 40" finds him as an over-the-hill ballerina -but still on pointe! He even does a duet with a spider monkey!

Occasionally, you may be lucky enough to see his "Tribute to Legends," lip-syncing Totie Fields and Sophie Tucker while Mae West is done live.

While with the Frisco Follies, Lee and Van Dyck appeared at such places as The Continental Dinner Theatre near Cherry Hill, New Jersey, Nick Talley's in Atlantic City, Granny's Dinner Theatre in Denver (three times), Turn of the Century Theatre in Denver (three times), Ole Henry's Playhouse int Alberquerque, plus seven seasons. at the shore in Wildwood, New Jersey, at the Club Casbah, and seven engagements (three to nine months each) at Harrah's Casinos in Lake Tahoe and Reno, Nevada.

In 1981, they created "Sisters" and have played such clubs as The Hide & Seek in Colorado Springs, The Free Spirit ciscos in botn Wichita and Oklahoma City, The Landing in Dallas, Talbot Street in Indianapolis, and New Dimensions in Dayton. They also have played many smaller clubs throughout the west and Midwest.
